The final round was held this past weekend on the AstroTurf track in Navan and with the weather showing mixed conditions it up its was going to lead to a mix of results for drivers over the weekend.
Qualifying was tough for a lot of drivers with the new astro in Navan forcing drives to alter there usually setups to optimize their buggies to handle the changed surface. In the Nitro class it was a under pressure Alan from a charging Andrew McClean and Bradley Baird who set  the early pace in qualifying, By the close of qualifying it was Alan Scroggie who took TQ with a series of impressive runs.  Andrew McClean would line up 2nd looking very controlled and in 3rd place was current National Champion Bradley Baird looking to mix it up with the top two in the Final. Gary Baird would line up 4th with Aaron 5th and Barkley 6th, three of these drivers came into the final round separated only by 2 points in the overall championship.

Just as we were about to start into the A Final the heavens opened and it decided to empty down with standing water appearing in parts of the track the first few laps would be a case of avoiding dipping in and out of the puddles ..

At the start it was Alan, Bradley and Gary to get the best start out front. An Electrical glitch on Lap 7 dropped Gary out of the race briefly and into the pits for a quick check promoting Andrew into 3rd place. Andrew gave a strong performance in 3rd until lap31 an engine flame out left him losing out and heading to the pit.  This left Alan battling it out with Bradley for the top spot. Both drivers swapped the top spot till L42 when Bradley had a crash that left him unable to continue,  Alan never looked back from this point and kept it clean  right to the end where he took a very impressive win .Gary’s glitch at the start lost him time ,however he drove a  fantastic race to catch Barkley and finish 2nd .. With Barkley finishing 3rd. just behind the top three Andrew White and Colin Whelan where having a battle to finish 4th.With other drivers having difficulties this was a chance for these two drivers to gain position in the overall championship. After swapping places a number of times over the last 25mins it was Andrew who took 4th by just a few seconds over Colin to round out the top 5.

In the Electric Class it was a dogfight between Gary Baird and Aaron Vance for the top spot. In Qualifying it was Aaron who came out ahead after putting in the only 16 lapper in round 3 of qualifying  timing it just before the rain showers started giving Gary no chance to better his position. John Duggan was keeping a grip on the top two qualifying in 3rd ahead of the rest of the pack.
At the start of the finals Aaron and Gary got off to a great start fight it out for most of the race. It came down to who made the first mistake and it was Aaron this time giving  a few seconds of an advantage after he rolled. This was a gap Gary would keep till the end take 1st ahead of a chasing Aaron. Behind John who started in 3rd got involved in a first corner crash dropping him to last place and promoting Conor Rielly. Despite recovering back up as far a 4th John could only match pace with Conor who kept  ahead to take a fantastic 3rd at his home track on the final day of the series.

Thanks again to all those who took part in the Championships throughout 2015. Hope we all see you in 2016 for more track action.
